What is this movie called?

Ok i seen this years back i really don't remember much of it all i remember is some guy traveling in space in this gyro-sphere spinning ball thingy, think made by Russia or japan, i don't know. but it has space travel and he sees weird stuff im sorry i wish i could remember more but i have been dreaming about this movie for the past couple days and i just wanna know what the hell it is. might be mel gibson i really don't know.
