Douz, Tunisia camel trek in August. Unbearably hot?

I'm planning a week long trip to Tunisia in August (only time I can go) and want to go for a camel trek in the Sahara near Douz. I've read that August is scorching hot and that excursions are restricted to the evenings. Is it still worth going? Will it be unbearably hot?
