How do you convert ".caf" files to mp3 or other iTunes compatible files on a Mac?

I've tried Quicktime 7.6.6, Quicktime X, Audacity, Garageband, Switch and all applications say they don't recognize the file type or that it's not a movie file. Can't find any codecs either for compatibility either. I imported the files from Quickvoice from my iPhone and I can't listen to them. Any help or ideas?
